This film is a remake of the fotoromanzo "Retaggio di sangue", written by Luciana Peverelli (under the pseudonym Anna Luce) and published in 24 parts in the magazine Sogno from December 1949 to May 1950. The actors who appeared in the original fotoromanzo are: Roberto Mauri (Randolfo), Isa Nazzarri (Nerina), Aldo Gizzi (Stefano), Gisella Mancini (Henriette), Achille Togliani (Folco), Rosella Berti (Lorenza), Romeo Boni (Adriano). Of the actors from the fotoromanzo, the only one to also appear in the film version is Roberto Mauri, who plays the same role as he did in the fotoromanzo. The majority of the other actors in the film are also fotoromanzo actors, however, and Anna Di Lorenzo, Ettore Serra and Walter Nazareno all worked extensively in fotoromanzi for Sogno in the 1950s.
