Attempting to make an Italian science fiction TV series for the US market, the project ran aground with the production of the pilot episode only. 'The Fifth Glacial Era' was made in 1978, by the same production staff who had worked on the five genre films directed by Alfonso Brescia between '77 and '78. This new project, in which Brescia was not involved, was shot close to the 5 films, making an abundant reuse of sets, costumes, props and special effects sequences. It was not sold as a series and the project was abandoned. The pilot, which was never broadcast on TV in Italy or abroad, was distributed on home video in the United States. Internationaler Vorspann.
